Tami Oyler is a self-representing artist who sells directly to the public.
Avoid gallery commissions and buy from the artist online. Prints and originals are currently available here:
Etsy: An innovative site for all things handmade. Currently offering art prints and original paintings.
eBay: Currently offering giclee prints.
Our new e-commerce site is in the testing phase, and will be open for business soon. We'll be offering original paintings and giclees at direct-from-the-artist savings.
Due to time and geographic limitations, commissioned work is available on an extremely limited basis. Prices start at $350. The artist is booked through 2006.
Tami O. prefers to do all prep work in person. "If you just want a photo copied in paint, I'm not your artist. When it comes to painting something you know well, I need to feel I'm as familiar with the subject as you are. That's tough if all I've seen is a client-supplied photo, because even the best photos don't accurately represent real life. I like to spend some time with the subject, shoot plenty of reference material from every angle, and make color notes and sketches from life. That way, when I go into the studio, I'm painting my memory of what I saw and and felt, rather than copying a photo."
That's not to say that Oyler never works from client photos. "Sometimes I can lose myself in a photo and paint from it as if I'm painting from life. I can't tell you what it is about those photos that draws me in, but I can walk right into them and experience the scene like it's real life." For an accurate painting reference, she adds the following requirement: "The lighting is right, the angle is pleasing to me. The shadows aren't too dark, and the highlights have some information in them."
